New product unveiling this summer, says Katherine Elphick

Already selling successfully in Canada, Collingwood’s Chickapea Pasta is set to launch its new product line, organic chickpea lentil mac and cheese in the U.S.

“We’re so excited to bring Chickapea Mac and Cheese to market,” says Shelby Taylor, founder and CEO at Chickapea. “It’s packed full of nutrients and tastes like the cheesy traditional comfort food we all love and grew up on.”

Chickapea’s boxed mac and cheese pairs the brand’s signature, two-ingredient pasta (chickpeas and lentils) with a real, organic cheese sauce, resulting in a simple, clean ingredient list. It is certified organic, non-GMO, kosher, vegetarian and gluten-free. “This new line is not just better for you, but actually good for you,” she boasts.

The only organic option in the category, the product boasts 19g of protein, 8g of fibre and less than 500mg of sodium per serving. “It turns a childhood favourite into a nutritious, guilt-free meal,” she says.

Chickapea Mac and Cheese is available in three varieties: mac with classic cheddar, mini spirals with classic cheddar, and shells with white cheddar.

This summer will see another Chickapea product launch aimed at pleasing the brand’s vegan and plant-based fans.

Launched in July 2016, Chickapea products are now available in about 2,000 stores across North America as well as online at and on Amazon. The Collingwood company has seven employees, and uses the services of several Canadian and U.S. brokers, distributors and sales teams.

“Our mission at Chickapea is to make healthy eating simple, convenient and delicious by reinventing comfort foods with only nutritious, organic ingredients,” explains Taylor.  “We believe you can have your mac and cheese and eat it, too.”
